A Theme Park
Barcelona is, in many ways, like a theme park: when you get off one ride, another is always right there waiting for you. But for an actual theme park while you are in Barcelona, remember to check out the Tibidabo Theme Park. From the classic to the modern, the attraction variety abounds. It goes beyond rides as the magnificent views of the city from the Park, situated at Barcelona’s highest point, would make the day one outing you would not likely forget.
If you are more interested in the classic, the El Pueblo Español (Spanish for, “The Spanish Village”) cannot be missed. The area recreates the typical streets and shops of Spain, complete with cobblestones and craftsmen’s workshops like glass workshops or the metal foundries. Here, not only can you admire the various masters working at their arts, you can also participate in the never-ending activities and workshops. Thus, this is also an ideal place to enjoy Spain’s most typical dishes or relax at night with a drink and a live music show.
For those who prefer observing instead of participating, the museums and stadiums are a fantastic option. The museu fundación Miró (The Museum of the Joan Miró Foundation) can be found on the Montjuïc Mountain. Miró’s works characteristic of Barcelona, with his legacy spread throughout the streets of Barcelona. Another must-see art museum is the Picasso Museum – the third most visited museum in the city. The Barcelona Football Club Museum and Stadium is highly recommended: you don’t need to be completely football crazy to feel a sense of awe in an arena seating no fewer than 100,000 fans..
If rummaging through old items is more your thing, don’t miss the Els Encants Market. This emblematic second-hand market opens on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and it’s almost impossible to leave without a good book, a piece of antique jewellery or a vintage lamp.
In contrast, the Les Glòries Shopping Centre just across the street is a grand showcase of the modern and luxurious. From the endless arrays of marque clothing and accessory brands to the gastronomic spaces of all types, the centre goes beyond a typical shopping experience. And it features more, a multi-room cinema and even live music is available from Monday to Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On the other side of the Las Glòries Square, you can relax at the Design Museum.
To best enjoy the way, rent a bicycle, a Segway or skates. Or, (with a little bit of time and a personalised course) you’ll be able to see the skyline of Barcelona while going paddle boarding.
